Avicenna – in the fifth Namat of his Isharat – reviews the issue of time. Commentators have different views as to his principle aim at this discussion. Some commentators maintain – of course incorrectly - that he is going to define time and prove its existence. Some others hold that here he is going to prove that before every temporal existence is matter. This reading is closer to reality but not exact. In this article we are going to show that Avicenna is going to prove that before every temporally coming to existence thing there is matter so the concept of temporally coming to existence is a paradoxical concept. . His final goal is to prove by a reductio ad absurdum that the concept of temporally coming to existence is not rational and will result to paradox. So the discussion of time here is not random or marginal but is part of a complete proof which some of its premises are not mentioned.
قراءة جدیدة من مکانة قضیة الزمان فی النمط الخامس من کتاب الإشارات والتنبیهات لابن سینا

أخذ ابن سینا فی فصلین متناوبین من کتابه الإشارات قضیة الزمان بالبحث، حیث یتیح إیجازه لاستخلاص تعالیق متعددة؛ فیری بعض شرّاح الکتاب أنّ ابن سینا فیهما بصدد إثبات وجود الزمان أولا، وتبیین ماهیته ثانیاً، غیر أنّه لیس قراءة مضبوطة ولا تتجانس مع الهدف الذی یرمی إلیه ابنسینا من وراء تصنیف النمط الخامس من «الإشارات». ثم هناک تعلیق آخر یری غرض ابنسینا إثبات أنّ الحادث مسبوق بالمادة، وهذا التعلیق رغم کونه أقرب للحقیقة إلا أنه غیر مضبوط وناقص أیضاً. وعلی أساس القراءة المعروضة فی هذه المقالة فإنّ ابنسینا قصد من خلال تصنیف هذین الفصلین وابتناءً علی کون الحادث مسبوقاً بالزمان، استنتاج أنّ الحادث مسبوق بالمادة، کی یُثبت فی نهایة المطاف استلزام مفهوم الحدوث الزمانی، کونَ الحادث مسبوقاً بالمادة، لتُعتبَر بذلک قضیة متناقضة فی ذاتها. إنّ غایة ما یرمی إلیه ابن سینا فی النمط الخامس تبیین بطلان تصوّر الحدوث الزمانی للعالم، من خلال تقدیم برهان خلف. فلیس البحث فی قضیة الزمان فی هذا النمط تکملة لقضیة أخری أساسیة، بل یُعتبَر جزءاً من برهان أتمّ لم یُصرَّح ببعض مقدّماته.
