The exegesis of the Muqatta’at has always been considered as one of the most important issues in the exegesis of Quran. Avicenna as a Muslim philosopher uses his philosophical method and fundamentals – which has a neo-Platonic aspect - to interpret these verses. In his treatise al-Niruziyah, Avicenna gives an exegesis of Muqatta’at based on his own philosophical fundamentals like the theory of emanation from God and then tries to interpret the Muqatta’at on the basis of the theory of the Abjad letters. According to him, every letter of Muqatta’at – which is considered as an Abjad letter –wether individually or in combination with other letters equals a number according to special rules which Avicenna offers, corresponds to certain existents.
