In this exchange, al-Bīrūnī—motivated by scientific rather than philosophical or theological concerns—challenges the dominant Aristotelian view according to which the heavens and the supralunar realm are exempt from generation and corruption. This debate encompasses both philosophical and cosmological dimensions. The present study focuses specifically on its cosmological aspect, with particular attention to the methodological approaches adopted by the two thinkers. We argue that al-Bīrūnī, drawing on observations of geological changes—such as the transformation of mountains on the Earth's surface—and employing inductive reasoning, seeks to extend a claim established in the sublunary realm to the supralunar realm, thereby challenging certain elements of the Aristotelian framework. In contrast, Avicenna, relying on Aristotelian principles, resists al-Bīrūnī’s proposed generalization.</span> <span lang="FA">در مقالة پیشِ­رو هدف ما بررسی یکی از پرسش­ و پاسخ­هایی است که دربارة کون و فساد افلاک بین ابوریحان بیرونی و ابن­سینا ردّوبدل شده‌است. در این پرسشْ بیرونی با انگیزه‌هایی علمی (نه فلسفی یا الهیاتی) در این دیدگاه غالب ارسطو­یی مناقشه می­کند که مطابق آن، آسمان و عالم فوق­القمر کون و فساد نمی­پذیرد. این مناقشه دو جنبه دارد: یکی فلسفی و دیگری کیهان­شناختی. ما سعی داریم جنبة کیهان‌شناختی آن را تحلیل کنیم. به‌طور خاص روی روش­شناسی طرفین تمرکز می­کنیم و نشان می­دهیم بیرونی با تکیه بر مشاهدة تغییر کوه­ها در سطح زمین و استفاده از استدلالی استقرایی، سعی در تعمیم مدعایی دربارة عالم تحت‌قمر به عالم فوق‌قمر را دارد تا بدین‌ترتیب برخی از عناصر دیدگاه ارسطویی را به چالش بکشد. درمقابلْ ابن­سینا سعی دارد با تکیه بر دلایلی ارسطویی با تعمیم مدّنظر بیرونی مخالفت‌کند. </span> https://ap.isu.ac.ir/article_78080_310cb5a7d908be1e69b95472d94575de.pdf
